The chemistry between Ash and his cohorts is terrific, with Ash and Kelly matching each other in the deadpan game, and Pablo alternately breaking down emotionally before drawing the strength to do what he must. Evil Dead makes the most of the contrast between a grizzled (yet still square-jawed and handsome) Campbell and his young-and-vigorous (yet in need of leadership) crew of two, Kelly and Pablo. However, he can still wield a chain saw (and a broken bottle, and a pair of scissors), and Ash vs. Where Ash was once a virile young rebel-with-a-chain-saw-arm, now he wears sparkling dentures and a gut-concealing corset and complains that his heart can't take the constant jolts. It's pretty weird to have a 57-year-old guy providing most of the muscle on an action-comedy-horror show, and this show has great fun mocking both the concept and Campbell himself. The overall vibe of the show is funny and shocking, but all the gore and violence could be quite horrifying to younger or sensitive viewers. Cursing includes "hell," "damn," and "bitch." Characters drink frequently on-screen and smoke marijuana before making poor choices. Expect sex jokes and references a perverse sex scene takes place in a bar bathroom, and we see naked backsides (male and female). Our hero wisecracks as he commits brutal violence against the undead. Limbs and heads are hacked off, and blood spurts, pools, and flies through the air. Bodies are impaled on chain saws and broken glass and deer antlers zombies and humans are stabbed in the eyes with scissors and many other sharp instruments. As human heroes fight an unstoppable army of zombies, there are slashings, stabbings, and shootings. Like the related movies, this show contains over-the-top violence and gore.

Evil Dead is a horror-comedy show that furthers the adventures of the Evil Dead horror movie franchise. Winning big at the Fangoria Chainsaw Awards – any horror fan worth his, or her, salts knows what a big deal that is – Ash Vs Evil Dead is a splatstick delight.

Adding to this line-up of TV royalty is Lee Majors, the original The Six Million Dollar Man, who stars as Ash’s estranged father. On the other side of the good versus evil divide is Xena: Warrior Princess star Lucy Lawlesss who plays a mysterious figure on a quest to hunt down the source of the recent demonic outbreaks.

His fellow “Value Stop” workers Pablo Simon Bolivar, a brilliant comedic turn by Ray Santiago, and Kelly Maxwell, played by Dana DeLorenzo, join forces with Ash when the deadites summoned by the ancient skin clad book the Necronomicon once again rear their ugly heads. His name may be in the title but this isn’t just the Ash show. Then all hell breaks loose, and with almost a hint of relief, he revs up the chainsaw and loads his “boomstick”. Drifting from town to town, the aging lothario has found himself living in a trailer, working as a stock boy at “Value Stop” mart and telling tall tales at the local dive bar to impress the locals. Retaining the film’s hilarious line in pitch black humour and sating the bloodlust of the most demanding of gore-hounds the show acts as a sequel to the original trilogy, joining Ash 30 years after he returned from his Medieval time-travelling adventures from 1300 AD at the end of Army Of Darkness. And now that legend continues with Ash Vs Evil Dead. Two sequels followed that only added to the Ash, and Bruce Campbell, legend. The film also introduced audiences to Bruce Campbell who played Ash, the blood-soaked sole-survivor of a night of demonic possession that left all of Ash’s friends and his girlfriend in pieces. Sam Raimi’s original video nasty The Evil Dead was a gratuitous slice of bargain basement Grand Guignol that grossed out audiences with a relentless line in bodily dismemberment and malicious mayhem, all with tongue in bloody cheek. The transition from the silver screen to the silver stream can often be a treacherous one but Ash Vs Evil Dead goes for guts and g(l)ory and covers the screen with both.
